Intelligent capacity control potential for system efficiency improvements & energy savings.

Number: pap. n. 16

Author(s) : PFEIL H. V.

Summary

Refrigeration and A/C systems consume approx. 14% of Germany’s total power consumption and 70% to 90% of it by the compressors. Improvements of the energy efficiency, seasonal energy efficiency, and reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases are the driving forces for further and new developments on compressors and system components. Although compressors and all system components of the today’s generation are already very advanced there are still potentials for improvements. An optimization package including advanced compressors, intelligent capacity control, intelligent system controls and the use of low GWP refrigerants lead to a significant reduction of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions (TEWI). In this paper several potentials are highlighted and compared.
