INTERNAL BREAKDOWN IN PLUM: PATHOGENESIS AND TREATMENT.

Author(s) : BIONDI G., MARI M., FOLCHI A.

Summary

THE OCCURRENCE OF THE DISEASE WAS STUDIED ON THE STANLEY CULTIVAR AS A FUNCTION OF THE RIPENING STAGE OF FRUIT ON PICKING AND STORAGE TEMPERATURE ; THE EFFICIENCY OF PREVENTIVE TREATMENTS WITH CALCIUM CHLORIDE PRIOR TO HARVESTING WAS ALSO OBSERVED. IT IS POSSIBLE TO REDUCE INTERNAL BREAKDOWN BY ANTICIPATING HARVESTING BY 6 TO 7 DAYS AND STORING THE FRUIT AT 273 K (0 DEG C). CALCIUM CHLORIDE TREATMENTS DO NOT REDUCE DETERIORATION SIGNIFICANTLY.
