Summary

A novel ejector-based CO2 system is proposed to meet the refrigeration and air-conditioning demands in a typical supermarket located in cities of Jodhpur, Chennai and Kuwait. Real component data from various manufacturers are utilized to make the theoretical results more accurate. The COP of the proposed system is compared with a conventional supermarket system having R404A for refrigeration and R410A for HVAC purposes and also with an integrated multi-ejector CO2 system for a typical summer day operation. The COP of the proposed system was found to be superior by 26.63% and 30.6% over the conventional and the multi-ejector system respectively. The annual energy consumption of the proposed system was found to be relatively lower. The lowest energy consumption was achieved in Jodhpur followed by Kuwait and Chennai. Further, the sub-hourly variation of air-conditioning load in a typical supermarket in Jodhpur was estimated using EnergyPlus to evaluate the response of the proposed system to load fluctuations.
