Summary
Specification VDMA 24247-7:2021 suggests different indirect measuring methods for evaluating the energy efficiency of refrigerating systems. These indirect measuring methods were compared to directly measured reference values using monitoring data of a real-world refrigerating system. Recommendations for improving two of these methods were given. However, only a limited range of operating conditions was investigated initially – i.e., low cooling capacity and refrigerant mass flow, respectively. Now, a wider range of operating conditions has been analyzed, including medium and high values of refrigerant mass flow as well as quasi-constant and intermittent operation. The analysis confirms previous results showing that indirect methods could be an alternative to a direct measurement. In five of six investigated scenarios, the median deviation between the indirect measuring method and direct reference measurement was less than 4 % for mass flow rate as well as cooling capacity and between -5 % and 11 % for the Total Coefficient of Performance.
