Summary

Several experiments with binary refrigerant mixtures were made to investigate the possibility of replacing R12, which causes environmental problems. The mixture R22-R142b can be recommended as an alternative. A mass fraction range of 50-70% R22 in this mixture was found to be reasonable. The same experiments showed that by using temperature effects during phase changes and by designing the plant accordingly energy can be saved. The results indicate that R22-R142b mixtures are good alternatives for industrial use.
