Investigation on condensation heat transfer of R454C inside small diameter microfin tube.

Summary

R404A, currently widely used in commercial air conditioners, has a high GWP of 3920. Therefore, the exploration of alternative refrigerants is needed to protect the global environment and respond to regulations related to restricting refrigerants with high GWP. In this context, R454C was identified as a suitable substitute because of its similar thermophysical properties to R404A and low GWP value (146). The objective of this study was to investigate the condensation heat transfer of R454C inside a 3.5 mm OD horizontal microfin tube. The condensation heat transfer coefficient was measured for mass velocity ranging between 50 kg m-2s-1 and 200 kg m-2s-1, vapour quality from 0.1 to 0.9, and saturation temperature of around 20 °C. The effects of mass velocity and vapour quality were analysed. Furthermore, the experimental data were compared to the existing correlation in the open literature.
