Summary

Owing to the advantages of minimal global warming potential with lower capital cost and energy consumption rate, much attention has been paid in the investigation for the application of mixed refrigerants of HFOs and HFCs in refrigeration cycles by many researchers. This study presents the experimental analysis in the heat transfer characteristics of the mixed refrigerant R454C in the vertical plate heat exchanger. In this experiment, 8 stainless steel plates of the plate type heat exchangers are used in the test section as a major component in which the refrigerant and water flows are arranged in the counter flow with the refrigerant flow channel in the middle sandwiched by the two water flow channels from the outsides. The experiment was carried out in both the condensation and evaporation modes with the mass fluxes of 10 and 50 kg/m2s. In the test section, 20 thermocouples are installed to measure the refrigerant wall temperatures, water side temperatures and saturation temperature of the refrigerants in order to calculate the local heat transfer coefficients of the plate at different positions.
