Summary
On December 2, 1877, Louis Cailletet liquefied oxygen for the very first time. As a result of these developments he achieved celebrity status. By producing very low temperatures through the expansion of liquefied gas, he took part in the birth of the refrigeration industry. The paper describes his role of precursor in the field of photosynthesis.
