Summary

Characteristic of low-temperature process engineering is the interconnection between refrigeration and separation of materials. This branch of refrigeration technology was established especially by Linde, Claude, Fränkl, Hausen and Heylandt between 1895 and 1945. A description is given of the developmental steps of liquefaction of air, production of oxygen, reduction of coke furnace gas and hydrogenation of coal.
