Irradiation as a post-harvest preservation treatment for papaya.
L'ionisation comme traitement de conservation des papayes après récolte.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The significance of irradiation as a preservation treatment for papaya is assessed. There is no radioactivity hazard in this process, which is efficient both as a fungicide and an insecticide; however, using it against fungal spores and bacteria is less effective. Therefore, the traditional treatments using hot water with added fungicide, nearly ten times less expensive, remain preferable, in spite of the risk of residues. Y.G.
