REPORT OF A COLLOQUIUM ORGANISED IN SEPTEMBER 1982 AT THE IRE (INSTITUT NATIONAL DES RADIO-ELEMENTS) IN FLEURUS (BELGIUM). AT PRESENT, THIS INSTITUTE PROCESSES 150 T/MONTH FOODSTUFFS, THE IRRADIATION OF WHICH IS ALLOWED IN BELGIUM: POTATO, STRAWBERRY, ONIONS, GARLIC AND SHALLOT, PEPPER, PAPRIKA AND FEED FOR LABORATORY ANIMALS. REPORT OF TEST DATA WHICH ALLOWED THE MIXED COMMITTEE OF AIEA/FAO/WHO EXPERTS TO ACCEPT THE NON-TOXICITY OF IRRADIATION FOR ALL FOODSTUFFS BELOW A DOSE OF 10 KILOGRAY (1 MEGARAD). AT PRESENT 22 COUNTRIES DELIVERED AUTHORISATIONS FOR THE IRRADIATION OF 32 KINDS OF FOODSTUFFS. G.G.
