Japanese programmes examine existing and new compounds.
Author(s) : BOELMAN E.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The article looks at two ongoing research and development programmes in Japan, which aim to find alternative refrigerants to CFCs and HCFCs. One programme is looking at blends of existing refrigerants while the other is intent on developing a completely new refrigerant. Tests on blends using existing heat pump equipment have not yet indicated a high performance refrigerant, and flammability questions remain unanswered. In the quest for a new refrigerant, computer design tools have streamlined the evaluation process which now focuses on about 70 synthetic compounds.
