Liquid-cooled IT equipment in data centers.

Summary
As interest in liquid cooling of information technology equipment (ITE) escalates, many claims have been made regarding the cost benefits of using liquid-cooled ITE.1 – 4 Because many factors and assumptions affect cost and approaches vary, it has been difficult to evaluate the legitimacy of the claims. To gain firsthand understanding, the authors collaborated to complete a balanced assessment between 100% aircooled ITE in a modern, best-in-class data center versus ITE cooled using a combination of air- and liquid-cooling in two alternative data center designs with separate air- and liquid-cooling loops.
