LOW MAGNETIC FIELD IMPULSE TRANSITION IN YBCO BULK MATERIAL.

Type of article: Article
Summary
THE DYNAMIC TRANSITION BETWEEN THE SUPERCONDUCTING AND THE PARTLY RESISTIVE STATE FORCED BY FAST LOW FIELD PULSES HAS BEEN INVESTIGATED IN TUBULAR SINTERED SAMPLES OF YBCO AT 77 K. THE FIELD PULSES WERE PRODUCED BY CURRENT PULSES THROUGH A STRAIGHT CONDUCTOR PLACED AT THE CENTRE OF THE TUBE. THIS ARRANGEMENT REVEALS VARIOUS TRANSITION PATTERNS. DOWN TO THE MILLISECOND RANGE THE DYNAMIC TRANSITION FITS APPROXIMATELY THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STATIC TRANSITION. HOWEVER, A CONSIDERABLE DELAY HAS BEEN FOUND IN THE SUB-MILLISECOND RANGE, WHICH MAY RESULT IN SURPRISING SWITCHING EFFECTS.
