THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES AN ICE STORAGE SYSTEM THAT IS COMPETITIVE IN FIRST COST WITH A CONVENTIONAL AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM AND THAT OFFERS OPERATING COST SAVINGS DUE TO FAVOURABLE UTILITY RATES NOW OR IN THE FUTURE. THE CRUX OF THE MATTER IS THE 276 K (3 DEGC) WATER AVAILABLE FROM ICE STORAGE SYSTEMS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS LOW WATER TEMPERATURE IS EXPLAINED. THE BASIC ELEMENTS OF FIRST COST FOR THE CONVENTIONAL SYSTEM AND THE ICE STORAGE SYSTEM HAVE BEEN COMPARED IN DETAIL.
