Magnetic refrigeration.

Author(s) : DEGREGORIA A.

Summary

The author explains the theory of cold production through the variation of magnetism exerted on some substances (gadolinium). The designing of a prototype is described, with its supraconducting magnets, a system in the form of a rotating core made of magnetic material and the heat-carrier fluid circuit which absorbs and evacuates heat. These systems cannot compete with conventional systems, costwise, but operating expenses are noticeably lower. Major developments are to be expected.
