Type of article: Article
Summary
Results of experimental and theoretical investigations of the magnetocaloric effect in heavy rare earth metals and their alloys are presented. The efficiency of using these materials as magnetic refrigerants is explored in low temperature (not higher than about 20 K) as well as liquid nitrogen and room temperature regions. For each of these regions the most promising refrigerants based on alloys of heavy rare earth metals are proposed.
