Magnetocaloric effect: theoretical description and perspectives.

Number: sect. 1

Author(s) : OLIVEIRA N. A. de, RANKE P. J. von, TROPER A.

Summary

In this paper the authors present a theoretical description of the magnetocaloric effect in metallic compounds. Here, the emphasis concerns compounds whose magnetism has an itinerant character. They use a microscopic model based in the framework of the band theory and they make a review analysis of the magnetocaloric effect in terms of the model parameters. Then, they apply the model to the compound Mn(As0.7Sb0.3) to determine the magnetocaloric characteristics at ambient pressure and for some values under external pressure.
