Malone refrigeration.

Author(s) : SWIFT G. W.

Summary

The theory is given of a new mode of cold production by liquid compression and expansion near the critical point. The chosen liquid, in those conditions, is compressible enough to allow significant transformations with heat absorption or radiation, and incompressible enough to minimize the size and movements of the system. A diagram is given, results with liquid propylene at about 10,000 kilopascals and ambient temperature are indicated. The problems pertain to the exchangers, recovery devices and the compression system.
