Manufacturer's role in vaccine cold-chain management.

Author(s) : ISLAM M. H.

Summary

Manufacturers recommend that Diphteria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DPT) vaccines be stored between 2 and 8 deg C. This temperature range keeps the vaccine cool and at the same time keeps vaccine safe from freezing, which destroys the potency of the DPT vaccine. The author thinks that the conditions of use of the refrigerators specially manufactured for vaccine conservation are not clearly defined and indicated to the customer. It is very important to define with accuracy the freezing temperatures of DPT vaccine and to help maintaining the desired temperature in the refrigerators, and all along the cold-chain.
