MASS DIFFUSION IN THE ABSORPTION OF AMMONIA VAPOUR INTO AMMONIA SOLUTIONS OF SODIUM THIOCYANATE.

Author(s) : KASHIWAGI T.

Summary

P-T-C CURVES FOR AMMONIA-SODIUM THIOCYANATE SOLUTIONS WERE MEA SURED FOR CONCENTRATION AND TEMPERATURE RANGES. THE MASS TRANSFER IN THE AMMONIA VAPOUR ABSORPTION PROCESS IN THESE SOLUTIONS IS STUDIED EXPERIMENTALLY BY REAL TIME HOLOGRAPHIC INTERFEROMETRY. IT IS EVIDENT THAT THE TRANSFER MECHANISM IS CONTROLLED BY MASS DIFFUSION AND THAT MASSDIFFUSIVITY IN THE ABSORPTION PROCESS IS ABOUT 3-4 TIMES HIGHER THAN FOR THE WATER-LITHIUM BROMIDE SYSTEM, WHICH SHOWS THAT THE AMMONIA-SODIUM THIOCYANATE SYSTEM IS PROMISING FOR CHEMICAL HEAT PUMPS AND THERMAL STORAGE.
