Measured and predicted performance of a R134a evaporator with uniform air flow.

Summary

The paper reports results from a programme of experimental and analytical work aimed at the development of a reliable performance simulation model for cross-flow evaporators which involve heat transfer between refrigerant R134a and a non-uniform air flow. Predicted results from the current version of the simulation program are presented and compared with rig measurements. Results are presented conducted with a single-circuit plate-finned-tube heat exchanger. These are compared with simulation predictions. The model predicts trends satisfactorily but consistently over-estimates the refrigerant outlet temperature and degree of superheat and hence the thermal capacity. The latter is over-estimated. Refrigerant pressure drops are also well predicted.
