Measurement techniques in room air flow.

Author(s) : SANDBERG M.

Summary

The focus is on laboratory methods. The difficulties in carrying out measurements in room air flow stem from the fact that a room occupies a large volume and one has a three dimensional recirculating flow. The velocities are very low and the relative turbulence intensities are relatively high. Within the border region between the primary air streams and the rest of the room time histories of variables exhibit intermittency, i.e. periods of violent fluctuations (active state) are followed by quiet periods. One must be cautious when interpreting signals which exhibit intermittency. Promising new measuring techniques are whole field measuring techniques where the distribution of a variable is captured instantaneously across a whole region.
