Summary
The paper describes a new, membrane-based vapour separation process that can recover more than 99% of the CFCs lost from commercial and industrial chiller purge vents. This process uses organic-selective membranes that are 10 to 100 times more permeable to CFC, HCFC, and HFC vapours than they are to air. Membrane recovery of these costly refrigerants offers an economical alternative to the purchase of new equipment or retrofit of existing equipment and will help extend the lifetime of existing equipment.
