Type of article: Article
Summary
THE SYSTEM FOR PRECOOLING MILK BEFORE IT ENTERS THE BULK TANK IS DESCRIBED. IT COMPRISES A RIGID GLASS FIBRE TOWER HOLDING 110 LITRES OF WATER IN A SUMP. THIS IS COOLED BY EVAPORATION AND IS PUMPED AT A RATE OF 3,000 LITRES/HTHROUGH A STANDARD PLATE COOLER, IN WHICH THE MILK IS COOLED. MILK AT 308 K (35 DEG C) CIRCULATED IN A PLATE COOLER AT 682, 1,364 OR 2,728 LITRES/H, WAS COOLED TO 295.2, 298.8 AND 302.2 K (22.2, 25.8 AND 29.2 DEG C), RESPECTIVELY, USING COOLED WATER FROM THE SYSTEM. COOLING CHARACTERISTICS, APPLICATIONS AND EFFICIENCY OF THE SYSTEM ARE DISCUSSED. (DAIRY SCI. ABSTR., GB., 49, N 7, 1987/07, 474-475, 4101.
