Mobile air conditioning: refrigerant recovery and disposal strategies.

Author(s) : SATYAPAL S., MICHELS H. H.

Summary

Strategies for the disposal of recovered refrigerants and their applicability to the mobile air conditioning market are presented. The methods discusses include conventional techniques such as pyrolysis and incineration, as well as developmental technologies, such as refrigerant decomposition through chemical or biochemical reactions. Although there are several possible methods for CFC destruction under development, most are not suitable for small scale disposal of recovered refrigerants from a mobile air conditioning unit at the present time. An overview of several disposal methods, including both short term and long term disposal technologies, is presented and general recommendations are made.
