Modelling of heat transfer occurring in a hyperthermia cancer treatment method.

Summary

Successful hyperthermia cancer treatment is impossible without controlling the heat transfer processes that occur in living tissues. In this work the authors provide a model for the heat transfer and heat exchange during magnetic hyperthermia methods. Four main issues concerning heat transfer have been considered: (1) heat diffusion; (2) heat convection by the circulatory system; (3) heat transfer between nanoparticles and their covering material; (4) the heat transfer between covered particles and the fluid, which is directly injected into the tumour. For the approach of such processes a thermodynamic model was developed. Numerical simulations according to this model were produced and the corresponding results are presented.
