Summary

A thermodynamic model is applied to the calculation of liquid-vapour equilibrium curves of a ternary mixture of HFC (hydrofluorocarbon) refrigerants and synthetic POE (polyolester) oil. The results are quite encouraging and show the complexity of this equilibrium, linked in particular to the difference in affinity between oil and the two HFC components. The main interest of physical models lies in the small number of parameters needed to provide very complete and, hopefully precise, information. On top of that, these parameters are easy to identify. Also, thermodynamic models are numerically complex, which can lead to convergence difficulties, especially at the border of the solubility domains.
