Modified-atmosphere packaging systems for improving shelf life of table grape during prolonged cold storage.

Summary

Clusters of "Napoleon" table grapes were stored in one flow-pack and three types of sealed plastic baskets up to 41 days at 0 °C. Two 35 m oriented and one macroperforated (control) polypropylene films were used. A fourth sample, as a control, was treated with Na2S2O5. The best results were shown by flow-pack system, followed by fungicide untreated sealed basket system. Both treatments were better than conventional storage in air atmosphere. Flavour of Na2S2O5 treated berries was poor probably due to excessive dose of fungicide, although no fungal attacks developed at any time.
