Monitoring and energy saving control for reciprocating refrigerating compressors.

Summary

A theoretical basis for monitoring the performance of refrigeration plants without a direct measurement of refrigerant mass flow rate has been developed. Relationships between the compressor's electrical motor parameters were determined as the function of refrigeration plant operational conditions. This so called passive monitoring approach allows devising a method for field measuring of the specific electrical energy consumption per refrigeration output, refrigeration capacity with total amount of consumed electrical energy and soundly verifying the performance of refrigeration plant. The results of monitoring could be used for the grounded control of voltage values supplied to motor terminals. Due to its simplicity, minimal refrigeration plant disturbance and reasonable accuracy, this method could be applied to schedule optimal control strategies for energy savings, logic design for fault detection and diagnostic system.
