Summary

THE STUDY IS MADE WITH A VIEW TO KNOWTHE DRAWBACKS OF TRANSPORTATION, STORAGE AND HANDLING OF FOODSTUFFS ; BASED ON THE SURVEY MADE IN THE CITIES OF RIYADH, JEDDAH AND DAMMAM. THE SURVEY COVERED 1,208 TEST UNITS IN THESE CITIES (STORE HOUSES, FACTORIES, SUPERMARKETS, GROCERIES, AS WELL AS REFRIGERATED TRUCKS, AIRPLANES, SHIPS, ETC) WHEREIN A NUMBER OF 4,021 SAMPLES WAS TESTED. OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTS REVEALED WERE THE GROSS DEVIATION FROM STORAGE STANDARD TEMPERATURES, SPOILAGE SYMPTOMS IN FOOD, POOR CLEANLINESS LEVELS, COMMINGLING OF COMMODITIES ETC. DEGREE OF ABIDANCE BY GOOD PACKAGING, LABELLING AND EXPIRATION PERIODS WAS ALSO NOTICED.
