Summary

THE ARTICLE DEALS WITH SMALL-CAPACITY PLANTS WITH FULLY HERMETIC COMPRESSORS OF UP TO 20 CM3 SWEPT VOLUME AND WITH EVAPORATING TEMPERATURES OFTEN BETWEEN -15 AND 15 DEG C. R134A AND R12 WERE COMPARED IN HERMETIC COMPRESSORS DE-SIGNED FOR R12, WITH R134A PROVING MORE EFFICIENT AT HIGH EVAPORATING TEMPERATURES. OTHER CASES ARE DESCRIBED IN WHICH R134A IS NO LESS ENERGY EFFICIENT THAN R12. THE REACTIONS OF DIFFERENT OILS, AND THE PROBLEMS PRESENTED BY MOISTURE AND OTHER IMPURITIES ARE DISCUSSED. THE PERFORMANCES OF A NEWLY DEVELOPED FILTER-DRIER FOR R134A SYSTEMS ARE DESCRIBED. INTRODUCING R134A AND ESTER OIL WILL REQUIRE MUCH NEW KNOW-HOW IN MANY DIFFERENT AREAS. M. C.
