Summary
Ensuring both quality and quantity to 6 billion inhabitants is the challenge on the eve of the third millennium. In order to gain an insight into this vital issue, an approach separating developed and developing countries is required, since the needs of these two country categories differ greatly. This analysis of the cold-chain situation in these countries and foreseeable trends is based on the most recently published data on population and food production.
