Summary

On June 20th, the French national association of legal experts on refrigeration, air conditioning and insulation(CNEFIC) and the French Refrigeration Association (AFF) held a symposium on "what's new in food-industry refrigeration?" In France, the food industry represents a 161 billion Euro turnover according to the latest 2012 data, against 144 billion in 2006). This industry numbers 13 500 companies (98% of which are small or medium sized) and employs over 495 000 people with export levels over 43.7 billion. Still in France, 24 million tonnes of foodstuffs use some form of refrigeration. According to the author, tomorrow's cooling will be "hybrid", due to the technologies and the energy sources (conventional or not) used.
