FOUR STUDIES ARE REVIEWED. 1. IN THIS STUDY DESIGNED TO EXAMINE THE EFFECT OF THE SLEEPING ENVIRONMENT ON SLEEP PATTERNS, IT IS SHOWED THAT THE TEMPERATURE OF THE SLEEPING ENVIRONMENT DID NOT AFFECT THE AMOUNT OF TIME SPENT IN THE VARIOUS SLEEP STAGES. 2. THERMAL COMFORT WAS EXAMINED AT 298.6 K (25.6 DEG C) WHILE SUBJECTS SAT IN OFFICE CHAIRS REPRESENTING 4 DIFFERENT STYLES. IT IS SHOWN THAT A SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER DEGREE OF THERMAL COMFORT WAS EXPERIENCED IN THE CLOTH-COVERED CHAIRS. 3. STUDY OF THE EFFECTS OF OCCUPANT DENSITY ON THERMAL COMFORT: INDIVIDUALS WERE EXPOSED TO 298.6 K EITHER INDIVIDUALLY, IN GROUPS OF TWO, OR IN GROUPS OF FOUR. 4. THIS STUDY EXAMINED THE EFFECTS OF LIGHTING ON THERMAL COMFORT: SUBJECTS WERE EXPOSED TO 293 K (20 DEG C), 298.6 AND 304.7 K (25.6 AND 31.7 DEG C) IN AN ENVIRONMENTAL CHAMBER THAT WAS LIGHTED WITH HIGH-PRESSURE SODIUM LAMPS, DAYLIGHT FLUORESCENT, SOFT WHITE FLUORESCENT, AND AMBIENT VALENCE LIGHTING COMFORT RESPONSE WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THE LIGHTING.
