New nonlinear effects in thermoelectric microcoolers for electronics.

Author(s) : BULAT L. P., YANG Y. S.

Summary

The requirement for increasing speeds of integrated circuits and computers is accompanied by higher heat power output. The increase will multiply the heat flux that has to be removed to over 100 W/cm2. The thermo-electric (TE) method gives a possibility of spot cooling and is absolutely clean environmentally. In modern TE microcoolers the temperature difference of 50 °C can be reached on the length of about 20 micrometers. Under those conditions all thermodynamic transport equations became nonlinear and nonlocal. A theory of nonlinear and nonlocal transport in microminiature TE cooling device is proposed.
