Summary

IN A SINTERED POLYCRYSTALLINE YBCO SUPERCONDUCTOR THE TRANSPORT CURRENT, I, IS IRREVERSIBLE AND DEPENDS ON THE WAY THE APPLIED MAGNETIC FIELD IS CYCLED. IT IS DEMONSTRATED EXPERIMENTALLY THAT NEW TYPES OF INFORMATION STORAGE AND PROGRAMMABLE SWITCHING DEVICES ARE CONCEIVABLE. ANOTHER INTERESTING EFFECT IS THAT, UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, THERE IS A SHARP INCREASE IN I WITH INCREASING APPLIED FIELD. THIS LEADS TO A DOUBLE SWITCHING EFFECT WITH AN INTERMEDIATE SUPERCONDUCTING INTERVAL.
