Summary

A NEW TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER BASED ON A MICROPROCESSORUNIT, IS PROPOSED FOR HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS IN RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS. UNLIKE TRADITIONAL ONES, IT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE BUILDINGS DYNAMIC RESPONSE TO VARIATIONS OF EXTERNAL OR INTERNAL TEMPERATURE, COMBINED WITH THE HEAT CAPACITY OF THE BUILDING STRUCTURE ; MOREOVER IT IS NON-LINEAR AS REQUIRED BY RADIATION AND CONVECTION HEAT EXCHANGE LAWS. TO DEFINE THE CONTROL LAW, A SIMPLIFIED BUILDING MODEL HAS BEEN DEVELOPED, COMPOSED OF THREE THERMAL CAPACITIES ANDFIVE THERMAL RESISTANCES. THE CONTROLLER CALIBRATION REQUIRES VALUES OF FEW PARAMETERS, WHICH CAN BE DEDUCED FROM THE BUILDING THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES, OR BE EXPERIMENTALLY DETERMINED. OPERATIONS OF THE DYNAMIC CONTROLLER HAVE BEEN SIMULATED USING A COMPLEX THERMAL MODEL OF A BUILDING: ITS PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN MORE SATISFACTORY THAN THAT OBTAINED WITH A STATIC CONTROLLER. E. F.
