Prediction of heat transfer coefficient during nucleate pool boiling in a vertical confined space.

Summary

Pool boiling of saturated R113 in rectangular vertical narrow channels formed by a heating surface and a parallel unheated plate has been investigated experimentally. It is shown that a noticeable heat transfer improvement may occur, particularly for low heat flux. Three boiling regimes have been identified. A new flow pattern map based on the Bond number and the reduced heat flux is proposed. Criteria for the transition between these regimes have been determined. Two correlations, the choice of which depends on the confinement, have been established to predict the heat transfer coefficients for the nucleate boiling with deformed bubbles regime, which is characterized by the highest heat transfer enhancements.
