Numerical investigation of ice-slurry flow and heat transfer in a scraped ice generator and a storage tank.

Summary

Numerical investigations of the brine side heat transfer in a rotating shaft evaporator and mixing of ice-slurry in a storage tank have been conducted using a CFD code, FLUENT. Based on the detailed predictions of the flow and temperature fields, means of improving the brine-side heat transfer have been investigated by incorporating extra mixing blades in the simulation model and comparisons with the measurements. Mixing of ice slurry in a storage tank has also been simulated to optimize the mixer geometry and understand the mixing characteristics.
