Summary
The application of micro‐channel heat exchangers (MCHXs) is a promising way to improve the efficiency of heat pump type air conditioners (HPACs). The most severe problem of MCHXs used in HPACs is that the defrosting water on MCHXs is difficult to discharge, which may significantly deteriorate the performance of HPACs. In order to optimize MCHXs structures to improve drainage performance, a model for predicting the water drainage process on MCHXs is developed in this study. In this model, the water drainage process is predicted by the velocity and direction of each water droplet formed on MCHXs, and the velocity and direction of the water droplet are calculated by the function of the forces acting on the droplet including gravity, surface tension and air drag force. The deviations between the predicted residual water mass and the experimental data under inclination angles of 0° and 90° are 10.7% and 15.1%, respectively.
