A simulation on microchannel heat exchanger for system performance.

Number: 1901

Author(s) : LI H., PENG J.

Summary

This paper presents the effect of microchannel heat exchanger design on system performance for a heat pump and air conditioner system. Microchannel heat exchanger is compact and lightweight unit with high heat transfer performance, which will improve the system performance and reduce the charge. To optimize the heat exchanger design, a simulation method is proposed in this paper. Seven configurations of heat exchanger pass-design are compared. By replacing single-pass with two-pass or three-pass heat exchanger, the system capacity and COP are largely improved. In the AC mode, the three-pass condenser and two-pass evaporator configuration has the highest COP and cooling capacity. In HP mode, the three-pass condenser and three-pass evaporator configuration has the largest heating capacity and HPF.
