THE USE OF ICE STORAGE TO REDUCE PEAK POWER DEMANDS WAS ENCOURAGED IN THE USA TO SAVE ON PROVISION OF NEW POWER SUPPLY FACILITIES AND ON TRANSMISSION LOSSES. ATTENTION IS NOW FOCUSED ON METHODS OF REDUCING THE OVERALL POWER REQUIRED. VARIOUS OPTIONS ARE SUGGESTED: ICE BANK CONTROL METHOD, USE OF COLD AND DRIER PRIMARY AIR, HEAT RECOVERY AND REFURBISH-MENT OF OLD EQUIPMENT. THE PRECOOLING OF GAS TURBINE COMBUSTION AIR WILL INCREASE POWER OUTPUT FOR PEAK BOOST. A.R.T.
