On-line concentration measurement of ammonia aqueous solution.

Author(s) : JEONG S., YOON H. G., KIM D. H., et al.

Summary

In this study, an on-line concentration measurement method for an ammonia/water solution is developed. Experiments for ammonia aqueous solution have been carried out for a concentration range of 25-45%. The result of the on-line method was compared with that of the extraction method which determines the concentration by measuring the density and the temperature of the extracted solution. The major findings in this study can be summarized as follows: 1) both methods showed quite good agreement (within 0.7%) regardless the concentration, circulation rate, and the heating/cooling power; 2) for all cases, the concentration measured by the extraction method is smaller than that measured by the on-line method. It is supposed that some of ammonia might be evaporated during the handling of the solution sample; and 3) with the measurement devices used in this study, the maximum errors in concentration of the solution (20-58%) induced by errors in pressure in temperature measurements are calculated to be 0.05 and 0.1%, respectively.
