On pressure fluctuations during boiling in narrow channels.

Author(s) : KEW P. A., CORNWELL K.

Summary

A test programme has been undertaken, supported by the CEC JOULE II R&D Programme, to provide data of use to the designer of compact evaporators incorporating narrow flow channels. The simple analysis presented in the article shows that local pressure fluctuations are likely to be a characteristic of evaporating flows in narrow channels. Fluctuations in local pressure lead to corresponding variations in local saturation temperature, hence average temperature differences and heat transfer coefficients must be applied with caution.
