Summary
The Pacific oyster mortality syndrome also occurs in Brazilian crops, with predominance in the adult phase, generating significant losses for local producers. According to the literature, if the spawning process is not triggered, a substantial reduction in the mortality rates can be achieved. This hypothesis steered the synthesis of a technological solution for the matter, a process enhanced by the product development methodologies. This article reports the experimental results of a proposed technological solution designed to mitigate the effects of summer mortality, and preserving desirable attributes in the final product, by inducing a regime comparable to the basal metabolism in long term confinements. Experimental results show that the Pacific oysters tolerate the designed controlled environment, presenting low mortality rates and preserving desirable commercial attributes.
