Summary

THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE SOLAR ACTIVITIES AND A GREAT AMOUNT OF OZONE DATA HAVE BEEN ANALYSED IN MORE DETAIL. THE AUTHOR FINDS THAT THERE ARE < SENSITIVE AREAS > AND < NON-SENSITIVE AREAS > EXISTING IN THE TOTAL OZONE RESPONDING TO THE INFLUENCE OF THE 11-YEAR SOLAR CYCLE. ESPECIALLY, THE RESPONSES ARE STRONGER IN THE HIGHER LATITUDES AND THE WINTER-SPRING PERIOD THAN THAT IN THE LOWER LATITUDES AND THE SUMMER-AUTUMN PERIOD. ACCORDINGLY, IN ADDITION TO THE CHAPMAN PROCESS THERE SHOULD BE A SECONDARY PROCESS FOR CONTROLLING THE STRATOSPHERIC OXONE LAYER.
