Summary

The method of air dehumidification by direct contact between air and an absorbent solution like water-lithium chloride, is the topic of the paper; in particular the possibility is investigated of keeping these two fluids separated by means of a semi-permeable membrane that allows only water vapour to permeate, so that tubular or plate vapour exchangers could be realized. Advantages of this technique are low pressure drop, air side and solution side, no carry-over of droplets, high contact area between the two steams, and no contamination of the solution. The process of mass transfer is theoretically analyzed, and experimental data referring to a poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene membrane are reported.
