Summary
The well known phenomenon of summer mortality in the Pacific oysters’ cultures also occurs in Brazilian crops, but with predominance in the adult phase, generating significant losses for local producers. The search for a technological solution for the minimization of its effects, supported by product development methodologies, indicated the mechanical vapour compression and the hydraulic compressing refrigeration systems as candidates cooling technologies. This article presents a comparison between these two technologies and concludes by the use of one, to the detriment of the other. The hydraulic cooling system presents disadvantages in relation to the final dimensions of the compression column and to its energy efficiency, if compared to the mechanical vapour compression cycle.
