Summary
An optimization method for an inverse cycle, based upon two imposed conditions for the performance of a real machine utilising a known refrigerating fluid, is proposed. In the first case the COP of the cycle is fixed and, starting from the typical relations governing the thermodynamic performance of a classical inverse cycle just referred to the selected fluid and to the particularly machine structure, it is proved that a maximum exergetic flux occurs depending on the mechanical power of the machine. This condition is considered as an optimal performance criteria for the inverse cycle. In a similar way an optimal performance condition is searched for the case in which, instead of the COP value, the compressor size is assigned.
